Cakes for Rosh Hashana & More

AndyB is busy baking some special cakes for the Rosh Hashana holiday, available this Saturday at the Farmers' Market. If you are not familiar with this holiday, it is the celebration of the Jewish New Year, and desserts typically include apples and honey symbolizing a sweet New Year. Come try one of the following cakes that AndyB is baking just for us:

  • Aunt Marna's Apple Cake - A traditional Jewish apple cake pushed to new heights with freshly ground cinnamon, orange juice and zest and thick chunks of tart Granny Smith Apples. This recipe is pareve.

  • Golden Cake - Golden apricopts, honey and postachios meld with cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom for a warm but brightly-flavored cake. This recipe is pareve.

  • Fruits of the Earth Cake - A light cake flavored with lemon, cinnamon, and ginger enveloping peach slices, blackberries and figs, then drizzled with honey. This recipe contains butter so is not pareve.

Of course, if you are an apple-lover we also HIGHLY recommend Andy's apple pie!

Shellbark Hollow will be bringing us two new cheeses - an aged Tomme and ripened Bloomy Rind Biscuit. We think these would make a wonderful plate with some crunchy Frecon Farm apples. Or perhaps with some beets from Wimer's Organics ...

Lastly, John & Kira's Chocolates will be back! Thank you for giving them such a wonderful reception last week. See you on Saturday!
