Market Opening Day - Saturday, May 23!!

The farmers’ market season kicks off on Saturday, May 23 from 10 am - 2 pm with fresh food and community fun. The market will be open every Saturday thereafter, rain or shine, through the fall. A delicious diversity of locally-grown or produced food items will be available – vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, breads – come and purchase the ingredients for an entire summer meal!

Our Opening Day celebration will include prize giveaways from local businesses, Alex's Lemonade Stand, a native plant sale from the Lower Merion Conservancy, and much more . . . bring your kids for a fun day that is not to be missed.

Detailed information is provided below on the wonderful farmers and producers who will be participating in the market. Please do come and support these local farmers and producers who have made a commitment to bring their fresh produce to us.

Livengood's Produce - organic vegetables, grassfed beef
Earl Livengood and his family have a 20-acre farm in Lancaster, PA, where they have been growing award-winning, certified organic vegetables for many years. Earl's son Dwain began raising pastured beef cattle, as well. They have participated in Philadelphia farmers markets' for many years, and have maintained a stand at the Reading Terminal Market since the early 90s.

Green Zebra Farm - vegetables
Mitch Shapiro is in his second year farming two acres in Glen Mills, PA. He is growing a diversity of vegetables, including heirloom tomato varieties. He uses Integrated Pest Management, a multi-faceted approach to controlling pest and disease that emphasizes sustainable methods of agriculture.

ShellBark Hollow Farm - goat cheeses
ShellBark Hollow Farm maintains a herd of grassfed Nubian goats on three acres amid the developments in West Chester, PA, from which they make goat cheese, yogurt, and kefir. Their sharp chevre is served by fine restaurants in the region. ShellBark

Spice of Life - gluten-free baked goods
Spice of Life was created in August of 2008 to provide great-tasting and nutritious bread for the ever-growing gluten-free community. Kristen bakes gluten-free bread, rolls, cupcakes and other treats.

Wild Flour Bakery - European-style baked goods
Wild Flour Bakery is an artisan bread and pastry bakery in Northeast Philadelphia. They bake baguettes and other loaves of bread, crackers and flatbreads with herbs and cheeses, croissants and other baked goods. Their rolls are used for some of Philadelphia's finest sandwiches, including the acclaimed Rouge hamburger!

Birchrun Hills Farm - cow cheeses, grassfed pork and veal
Birchrun Hills Farm is a dairy farm in Chester County, and will make their products available at the market beginning May 30. Although she's been farming for 20 years, Sue Miller only started making cheese about 3 years ago yet she is already one of the region's finest artisan cheese makers. She will also bring pastured and humanely-raised pork and veal from animals that she and her family raise.

Wimer's Organics - organic produce
Bud learned how to provide top quality organic produce to wholesale customers while working for Paradise Organics, a standard-setting organic farm in Lancaster County since 1980. Since launching his own business in 2007, he has provided that same top quality produce directly to eaters. The vegetables at Wimer's Organics stand are grown at the Paradise farm and its sister farm in East Earl, PA, where he is manager.

  3. So glad we finally have a market like this in Bryn Mawr! All of the produce I bought today was so fresh and delicious. Loved the neighborhoody feel of it too-- lots of families and even pets. Can't wait to see the stands they add in the coming weeks.

  4. Sorry to say that the goats at Shellbark Hollow are not grass fed ......I have been to the farm, and the live on dirt and are fed alfalfa from bales. That said, the term grass fed goats should be removed from your explanation of what Shellbark Hollow does. It is totally misleading.
