Got Milk?

Got milk? How about milk that is locally-produced, certified organic and from 100% grass-fed Jersey cows? How about milk that received the highest rating from the Cornucopia Institute, an organic industry watchdog? Where can one find such fabulous milk? At the Bryn Mawr Farmers Market, of course, opening on Saturday, May 8!

We are thrilled to welcome the Hails Family Farm, an organic dairy from Wyalusing, PA, to the market this year. The Hails Family produces such high-quality milk that calling it certified organic is really an understatement. Their milk is low-temperature pasteurized and non-homogenized, and comes in whole, 2% and non-fat. They also produce American-style yogurt (spoonable) and European-style yogurt (pourable). The European-style is higher in protein and easier to digest - so be sure to give it a try. Additionally, they will be selling a variety of cows-milk cheeses (both aged and fresh) such as cheddar, swiss, jack, cottage cheese and yogurt cheese. And finally, they'll have butter and eggs to boot!

The Bryn Mawr Farmers Market will truly be better than ever this season, and we're planning a blockbuster May 8th opening day celebration. Thanks to our generous sponsors, Bryn Mawr Trust and Blank Aschkenasy Properties, we are now able to provide some fun "extras" to enhance the market experience. Kids will love the moonbounce and arts & crafts, and Adam Web will be performing live music for all to enjoy. The Lower Merion Conservancy will be back with wonderful, hard-to-find, native plants for sale. We'll have animal adoptions and a beverage stand benefitting the Friends of Linwood Park. We sure hope you'll join us in welcoming our new farmers and welcoming back our returning farmers and producers.

This Sunday you can say hello to our market manager, Pat Broida, at Ardmore's Clover Market. Pat will have information on the market and samples from our dessert-baker, AndyB Confections. We want to thank Andy who is real gem for providing the samples, and congratulate the Clover Market on its smashing debut earlier this month. Check it out!

Coming up next week: another farm with a new product for the market, and the full line-up for 2010.

  1. Is there a list of the vendors somewhere? I'd like to work for someone this season and need to know who to contact. Thanks!

  2. Hi Johnny - We are putting out the list later this week. You might want to e-mail Joanna Pernick at Farm to City - joanna@farmtocity.org and ask if she has heard anything. John & Kira's chocolates were looking for help too, see our earlier post with contact information.
